ginnyisdacoolest ::: Favorites I think acceptance and 'curing' (i put that in quotes as that's still a debated term for it) can go hand in hand in a way - as in changing what you can and accepting what you can't? 06-12-27 11:30:33 __________________________________________________
qchan63 ::: Favorites I think that's exactly right. A lot of it is really about discovering the power of nonverbal communication and reinforcing feelings of competence. (In fact, you could argue it'd be just as useful for NT's as for anybody else.) Not that i'm some rdi evangelist, but i do like the ideas it's based on, which i think dovetail well with notions of respect and acceptance. 06-12-18 18:18:09 __________________________________________________
christschool ::: Favorites I don't really have any problems with RDI as I know it because it teaches mutual respect and from what I know the approach respects the child and is not a method that pursues "a cure". 06-12-18 16:02:31 __________________________________________________
qchan63 ::: Favorites What a great statement. This is such a powerful way of showing how we can agree on the importance of respect and acceptance, even if we don't always agree on ideas about education or treatment. Our son is doing RDI (something it appears philcommander is working with also), but we see it as (to paraphrase christschool) a way of providing tools, not a means to "fix" or "cure." Anyway ... nice job. 06-12-18 13:14:00 __________________________________________________ |
