Jerry Baldwin (Who co-founded Starbuck's in 1971) sold Starbuck's 20 years ago--he owned both companies at the time (Peet's was founded in 1966), but they were never merged. Jerry owned Starbucks and bought Peet's in 1984, then sold Starbucks three years later to concentrate on Peet's, which he's still the director of.
